While cold process soap is generally safe to use within a few days of being made (the saponification process has finished,) it takes anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks (or in some cases up to 6 months) to cure.  As soap cures, it loses water.  As it loses water, it loses a little weight, but the end product becomes a harder, longer lasting bar of fine quality ingredients.
